Unearthly heat

In the night, as hot as a furnace,

The little village tosses feverishly.

The windows are mute

But the life outside remonstrates:

A desperate choir of dogs jeeps roaring,

Cocks keep crowing angrily,

Cows moan in unearthly tone now and then,

Sparrows cry out, and the crickets

Keep scraping crazily on high-pitched strings.

In this unearthly heat

Man hides himself in dreams.

However, the animals stay awake,

Their prayer never stops:

They stay, waiting for a thunder to pour down water

Between sky and earth,

And for a soaking-welt tailed angel

To pass quietly through their sleep
