Super nightmare

I dreamt that my right hand

Had been stolen.

Terrified, I reached out after it

With my left one.

Where are you taking it, you damned thief?

What will you do with it?

Who will you sell it to?

I am a left-hander by birth

But my right hand also

Served me well:

With it I carried bread and books,

Held the handle of the spade,

I trained it to write legibly...

And now? And then?

Who knows what a rascal it may find,

What tricks it may learn:

To become a pick-pocket,

To flourish a racketeer's bat,

To steal bronze monuments,

To shake hands

With other robbers...

Give it back to me, you bastard!

Even without the gold ring -

Give it back at once!

...At that point the horror ended.

An engine's noise interrupted my nightmare.

My right hand was in its place.

The left one was clutching the gold ring.
